Split-brain research has been conducted for decades.  It has also become known
as the "Brain Dominance Theory".  The findings of this research indicate that each hemisphere of the brain tends to specialize in and preside over different functions, process different kinds of information and deal with different kinds of problems.

The Left Hemisphere of the brain uses logic and reason and thinks in words.  It deals in parts and analyzes.  This part of the brain will think sequentially and is time-bound and extroverted.  It is characterized as male and identifies with the individual.  It is ordered and controlled.

The Right Hemisphere of the brain uses intuition and emotions and thinks in pictures.  It deals with the whole.  This part of the brain  thinks holistically and is time-free and introverted.  It is female and identifies with the group and is spontaneous and free.

The goal is to increase "cross-talk" between the two brain hemispheres,
thereby achieving a more whole-brained state, which is ideal for changing
subconscious beliefs.  The tendency of the mind to overidentify with one side or the other of the brain hemispheres can contribute to everything from domestic quarrels to international conflicts.  Consequently, getting both hemispheres of your brain to process information at the same time is one of the keys to successfully dealing with life's challenges in a balanced and effective manner.
